Q1: What is an ICT work permit?

Work/Residence Permits are issued to any Non-Kenyan wishing to engage in employment in Kenya whether in gainful employment or voluntary service. The work/residence permit are issued by the Department of immigration and are classified from class A to M. They are issued under Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act 2011 of the Laws of Kenya.

Q2: What is clearance for work permits?

The Department of Immigration refers work permit applicants to different government ministries or agencies for clearance. The clearance is issued in form of a letter to the department of immigration. ICT Authority issues clearance to non-Kenyan employees or investors in the ICT sector as and when referred/requested by the Department of Immigration via an official referral letter/form

Q3: How is the clearance prepared?

An applicant has to fill in an online form submitting all requirements for issuance of clearance. A committee will then assess the submissions, note their recommendation and send them to the department of immigration

Q4: Who issues the clearance?

All clearance letters and recommendations are signed by the CEO and sent to the department of immigration.

Q5: Who issues the work permit?

Authority for issuance of work/entry permits or temporary passes is vested on the Department of Immigration Services under the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act 2011 of the Laws of Kenya.

Q6: How long does it take to get clearance from ICT Authority?

Upon submission of ALL requirements, the process takes 14 working days

Q7: What is the type of work permit?

Immigration requires an applicant to apply for the various permit classes for either a new application or a renewal-The classes of the work permits are available on the immigration website. www.immigration.go.ke

Q8: What is a local understudy?

All work permit applicants are expertise and are required to indicate transfer of skills to a Kenyan/s working in the company. The local staff being trained by the applicant is the local under study.
